The Developers at the Oak Bay United Church want a precedent-setting rewrite of local zoning laws. If successful, they will change the nature of their quiet neighbourhood, Oak Bay Village and our municipality forever.
With $800,000+ of taxpayers’ money, courtesy of BC Housing, along with developer and political muscle, the developers have put together a submission that was filed with the District of Oak Bay on August 13, 2018. The District, for unknown reasons, is refusing to make the application public.
The Concerned Citizens Network of Oak Bay is a group of neighbours who support affordable housing. What we object to is the size and density of the proposed project: the apartment block is too big, the apartments are too small, current infrastructure cannot support it, and traffic and parking problems are guaranteed to get worse if it proceeds.
Today it is our neighbourhood. Tomorrow it may be yours. Such a rezoning will affect all of us.
The CCN-OB members have spent thousands of dollars personally to obtain Freedom of Information reports, create garden signs, print neighbourhood information brochures, website creation and social media costs and other investigative charges. Find out more at: www.ccn-oakbay.com
