Save Otis and Randy - pups shot by BB gun

Tax deductible

On Sunday, March 17, I was made aware of an injured puppy.   The owners home had burned to the ground in rural Missouri, two hours away from where I live.  They had their dog and a surprise litter of puppies still in the cage in the yard at the property where the home had burned down.    I work loosely with Stray Paws through a friend, in that I have fostered a dog for them, which I ended up keeping, and my friend that we got her from has rescued over 200 dogs in her time with the rescue, so I try to help where I can and stay connected to their work.   I immediately told the girl that I could take the dog, which we now call Otis.  I reached out to my contact at Stray Paws Rescue, and she said yes, we can take him.  About an hour later, the girl text me a picture of another dog and said he had a hole in his tummy.  I said, bring him too!  The next day I met up with her and I could tell the little brown one, now known as Randy, was sick.  We went immediately to the vet that works with Stray Paws Rescue and they took them in and said they would triage them until the vet that worked with the rescues returned the next day.  They ended up having to perform emergency surgery on him that night.

We received a call that the dogs had actually been shot with BB guns.  The little brown one was becoming septic and they had to do emergency surgery to save his life.  I was sickened.  The rescue took these little guys on with no hesitation and with no donations rolling in for them.   They will not be able to take on the rest of the litter, who are NOT injured and bring them to safety for the family who has no resources.  Please help me in giving back to this rescue, making up the thousands they have and will put out to nurse these two back to health.  I am fostering the white one.  He is a the sweetest boy.  He is apprehensive to come to you at first, understandably, as he probably did have trust in humans because of his owners, but when they were not there, another human shot at him and the other dogs.   Randy has a long road ahead.  They could not fully close the wound on his leg, and one of the amazing vet techs agreed to keep him in her personal care, saving the rescue the hospital fees to nurse and clean his wounds so that the doctor could attempt to close his leg up in a few days.

These pups will have no problem being adopted out.   The rescue just has depleted their funds to help at this point, and I'm doing what I can to try to give back to them.   They are an amazing organization, with amazing volunteers who work tirelessly trying to save animals in need, while barely keeping their heads above water.

Otis is doing really well.  I hope to see Randy in the next couple of days after they are able to close his wound and begin to nurse him back to health, potty train, and give him all the love he deserves before he goes to his new forever home!
