Save Milan

Hello everyone! I am Emily Morgan, a senior at Felix Varela Senior High School, currently involved with the Varela Sr. FFA. I have been showing goats for 3 years now and as I move on to college I have realized that raising goats is something I want to do beyond high school and I aspire to contribute to the dairy industry by breeding for better production and structural correctness in addition to using the best management techniques. I have opened a GoFundMme to raise money to mastectomize (remove the mammary system) on one of my does. Although I bought Milan only 8 months ago, she absolutely owns my heart. Besides the great breeding she has behind her, her personality and presence in the herd is unmistakable. Here is our story. 

I bought Milan pregnant in September, and once she freshened in late January I started to notice that she had bumps in her udder. After trying different methods to treat them such as peppermint oil and attempting to massage them out, the bumps wouldn't budge and she started to lose weight. I consulted a breeder who recommended a milk culture, which indicated that Milan has pseudomonas--one of the most deadly strains of bacteria known in veterinary medicine.  After speaking with multiple veterinarians, Milan’s current situation has only 2 options: mastectomy or euthanasia. Every cent that will be raised on this site will go to her surgery, recovery, and the transportation to take her to where the procedure will be done. I live in Miami and the veterinary hospital that she will be going to is about 6 hours away!  A mastectomy is a risky and tedious procedure, but it is the brightest light shining for my favorite girl. Milan deserves the long and productive life she has ahead of her, please help me save her!


Milan will be receiving her mastectomy with the University of Florida, and if you are more comfortable donating directly that can also be arranged.
