One of America's most historic public golf courses is in danger. We need your help to save it.

Designed in 1916 by famed golf course architect A.W. Tillinghast, Belmont Park Golf Course near Richmond, VA is one of the most historic and distinguished public golf courses in all of North America.

In 1949, Belmont Park was host to the PGA National Championship (won by Golf Hall of Famer Sam Snead). It is the only course in Virginia to ever host a golf major (and one of the few championship courses open to the public).

Unfortunately, the Henrico County Board of Supervisors is considering other uses for the park - which may not include golf. This century-old slice of national golf history is now in danger of being redeveloped.

A group of concerned Henrico County citizens have banded together to form Preserve Belmont: a grass-roots organization dedicated to preserving Belmont Park as an 18-hole golf course open to the public. We support the continued development of Belmont Park as an inclusive, diverse, and community-centered venue - one that enhances the quality of life in adjacent Lakeside and nearby communities.

Our volunteers have accomplished much in the past few weeks: launching a new website to inform the public, developing a member database, and reaching out to educate the public about the importance of preserving Belmont Park. But we need your help in raising funds to help cover marketing expenses, such as:
- Yard signs, decals, and flyers,
- Direct marketing campaigns to reach out to additional members, and
- Professional services (such as PR or video production).

Whether or not you are able to donate, we ask you to join Preserve Belmont for free today.  We will send you regular updates on all we are doing to save this historic course for future generations.

If you've been through Lakeside lately, you've seen that Preserve Belmont is making sure your voice is heard! We're almost through our second order of yard signs, for which there has been plenty of demand. If you donate any amount to help us reach our goal, we'll be sure to set aside a sign for you.

We've also designed, printed, and distributed targeted mailings and flyers to specific residents in and around Lakeside--to inform them about the status of Belmont Park Golf Course and to urge them to join us. We've more than doubled our membership in recent weeks, and are getting support from the Richmond area and beyond.

We've also secured contact information for everyone who's played golf at Belmont Park in the past five years (almost 20,000 golfers total). This information is invaluable to our organization for many reasons.

First, it helps us plan for a targeted direct marketing campaign (through direct mail and e-mail) to educate golfers about the status of the course. Since Henrico County won't be letting them know the course is in danger of closing, it's up to us to do so. This will be one of our largest marketing expenses to date, but feel it's crucial to do this outreach.

Second, it gives us hard statistics that bolster our argument that Belmont Park is important both as a community course and as a national sports tourism destination. In the past five years, it has hosted golfers from 48 states and D.C. over 30 international golfers have also visited the course.

Finally, it shows that Belmont Park Golf Course serves Henrico County residents from all walks of life. Regardless of socioeconomic status or ZIP code, Belmont Park is everyone's neighborhood course.

We've got ambitious goals for the organization in the coming weeks--and your gifts are helping us get there! Thank you for your continued support of Preserve Belmont.
