I am making this page in a desperate attempt to save the life of a sweet little dog that has had a very rough life. She was used for breeding purposes in a puppy mill environment until Dec 2015. When she was of no more use to the original owners they discarded her. I don't have a lot of detail other than to know she was very fortunate to end up in a rescue in Ohio. From there she was sent to Canada and finally ended up in the MInpinerie. Several times she was adopted out and returned due to her lack of toilet training. She also had chronic diarrhea which was hard for some to deal with.
My daughter Kayla wanted to save her as soon as she saw her photo. I was originally just fostering Hershey until I got her housetrained and got her bowel movements regulated. We were very happy to have her in our home and fell in love with her over the last few months. She was doing her business outside and ready to go to my daughters but by this time she had become so comfortable in our home so we were reluctant to let her be uprooted again. My daughter Kayla loves Hershey and wants the best for her so she agreed to let us keep her.
Three weeks ago Hershey was on a walk with our other dogs and she encountered a porcupine. Two of our other dogs only got a dozen or so quills and were successfully treated. Hershey was taken to OttawaCarleton Animal Emergency on Lola where they removed several hundred quills. She was also treated by Hopital de La Montagne on Rue Saint Raymond in Gatineau on a regual basis since then. At least a dozen quills a week have been making their way out and she was looking very good. Then last Friday she stopped eating and became very lethargic. We took her to our vet and found a quill has migrated and penetrated a kidney. She has a large renal abscess and kidney damage. The kidney has to be removed or she will die.
We cannot let this little girl go. We all love her dearly. She has so much to live for now. She has a family that will do whatever it takes to ensure the remainder of her life makes up for her tragic history.
We have already invested thousands in the removal of quills and her aftercare but this new surgey is going to be too much for us to handle. I cant let money be the issue that ends her short life.
The anticipated bill for this surgery is 10,000 and we have already spent almost 5,000 oursleves. We want her to live the rest of her days with her new family and the dogs she has bonded with.
She is already in Alta Vista and awaiting surgery but they need the funds now. Please help with whatever you can spare. Every little bit helps.
My other dogs have insurance to the hilt and we were just about to add Hershey to our plan with Pet Secure when this happened. She hasn't been with us long enough and we are going to do whatever it takes to get her through this.
My entire family will be in your debt. We ALL love this little dog and promise to make the rest of her life count.
