Celtic Chaos is a Burning Man theme camp, art and sound collective, and an international community. We’re committed to making the world a better place by embracing life, music, art, and friendships to the maximum. Our roots are Irish but everyone is welcome. We encourage participation, creative expression, and inclusivity, all served with a side of banter and plenty of Irish craic!
2019 was our sixth year bringing our colorful camp to the playa. In 2013 - 2015 we presented ‘The Castle’, a 70’ x 70’ castle structure with iconic green lighting that played host to three weddings, thousands of visitors and gifted way too many whiskey shots to count. From 2017 - 2019 the camp stepped up the game, adding a 200,000 watt sound system, rising LED dome and a new bar. Each year, our camp has evolved and continues to inspire with epic sounds and visual appeal.
In many ways, we are a thriving global community, with members spread across the globe, stepping up to manage this project. Yet, here we are 3 months after the event and the future of Celtic Chaos is in jeopardy :-(
2019 has kicked our asses financially and we’re in a hole that we need to dig ourselves out of. Otherwise, the camp will not be able to come back next year. You see, it’s not just blood, sweat, tears and volunteer hours that it takes to produce a camp of our size. It’s a shit-ton of money too. Camp fees alone cannot cover our production costs. Bills have steadily increased annually and, in particular, our storage and haulage costs have been a big hit to us. We currently have a past due bill of $7000 that we need to pay ASAP and there is no money in the bank. We are at the point where we may need to sell assets to pay this bill. How did this happen, I hear you ask? This year we had fewer campers than we budgeted for, which equals less income. Over the summer, our primary focus was the camp build and our fundraising efforts were minimal; this paired with increased costs means we are in the red.
We are aware of the constant barrage of crowdfunding campaigns featuring in everyone's newsfeeds and inboxes and understand that it's impossible for anyone to contribute to every single campaign. And so we have created the Celtic Chaos Twenty Buck Challenge! No gimmicks, no schwag, we're simply asking that 200 of our nearest and dearest throw $20 (or 18 euros!) each toward our cause and help us save the camp! Our goal is to raise $4000 via this online campaign that will go towards our outstanding bill. We also have other fundraising initiatives planned offline to cover the remaining shortfall.
If you’ve ever been forced to do a whiskey shot at our bar, please support us so we can continue to poison folks with fireball, whiskey, and god knows what else. If the castle landmark has ever saved you after a crazy night wandering the playa, please help us continue to be a beacon on the playa. If you’ve ever danced your cotton socks off at Celtic Chaos, please consider throwing some dollars our way, so that we can delight you with more tantalizing tunes in the future.
