Save Breck Woods

Apartment developments threaten to diminish Breck Woods. The Woods is seven acres in an urban setting, surrounded by highways, railroads, an industrial park, a golf course, apartment buildings, and single family housing. It contains a wetland and a ravine and it is a habitat for many creatures, from microbes and mushrooms to birds and mammals. It serves as a flyway for migrating songbirds. Most importantly, it stands as a bulwark against air pollution, traffic noise, urban heat, soil erosion, and groundwater contamination from the city around it. 

Minnesota's climate is heating faster than the rest of the country, with our winter heating up 13 times faster than the summer. New studies show that the single most effective weapon in combating climate change is protecting and maintaining our forests, especially against urban sprawl. Protecting Breck Woods and its plants and animals is our response.

The funds we raise with your help will support publicity for our cause through website development, ads, education, and yard signs. We will use these funds for securing legal protections like a conservation easement for Breck Woods. Longer term plans include education programs to teach respect for the Woods and the importance of its role in our greater environment.
