Save Bob’s Eyes from AMD

About a year ago, our friend Bob Litchfield was diagnosed with Age Related Macular Degeneration which is an eye disease which causes blindness. It is quickly advancing - much faster than expected and now effects 60% of Bob's vision. AMD blocks out center vision as it progresses leaving only peripheral vision and in some cases, that too can become blocked.
There are special glasses which will help Bob see and possibly slow the progression of the disease but they are quite expensive and insurance doesn’t consider near blindness a legitimate medical expense. (Go figure.) As he said, he won't be able to drive but he'll be able to read and watch TV. Those of us who appreciate his commentary on our political situation want to help him continue to participate with our groups.
Bob is a decorated Army veteran with 20 years of service but the Veterans Administration has no provision for any eye treatments and the cost of the eSight glasses is $9,999.00. This expense is simply not possible for him to even consider on an Army pension.

The glasses basically shift what the person is looking at to the peripheral vision so they can continue to function.
Bob has an appointment on Sept 19 in Philly to meet with the representatives and see if they will work for him. There is a less expensive glasses option (approximately $3500) which may work and he has a call into them to explore that route also. He will also be putting his own funds into this effort. Some of us are also exploring some private veteran groups who might contribute to our campaign to help Bob.
Bob wouldn’t ask us to do this for him so we’re doing it on his behalf. He lives alone and the idea of losing ones' eyesight and independence is truly an awful prospect for anyone, much less a single veteran.
He has been told he’ll be legally blind within a year so we have to act fast.
Please make a donation to help this very deserving man to help him retain his eyesight. No amount is too small but please be generous. We know Bob would do anything he could to help one of us. Let's do this for him.
