The Big Island Dance Council (BIDC) has been serving the Big Island community delivering 400 -600 dance classes of all kinds to school aged children from pre-school through high school for 43 years! This year the organization must raise $2,000 to match a grant of $4800 to continue bringing joy and the art of movement to our island youth. This matching amount must be raised IMMEDIATELY or the grant will be lost. All the money raised will go to pay Dance Specialists, many of them young, talented dancer/educators. BIDC often reaches out to underserved and low income communities to give them opportunities to experience dance which they might not receive in their regular curriculum. BIDC has served the community well, please give back to them, so they can fulfill their mission! BIDC recently co-sponsored a FREE Arts in the Park event for families in collaboration with other non-profits who believe the arts can save lives!

An Exciting Update:
Mahalo to our 25 Angel Donors who have put us at the amazing 79% mark! As an incentive to be THE ONE to get us to reach our final goal, I offer you an intriguing story:
Drukpa Kunley was an accomplished Buddhist master who arrived in Bhutan from Tibet in the 15th century. He was known for his unconventional and outrageous way of teaching, which was often accompanied with singing, humor and sexual overtones. Hence, he was fondly nicknamed the “Divine Madman.”
Legend has it that numerous demons were causing continuous oppression on the people. The Divine Madman subdued and destroyed them by firing them with his “flaming thunderbolt of wisdom.” He didn’t only subdue them with his phallus but turned them into protective deities. No wonder he became such a Bhutanese legend!
To many Bhutanese, the phallus became a symbol of protection against evil and any kind of harm. And this explains the ubiquitous drawings of phalluses next to the doors and windows of houses and shops throughout the countryside. And one of these can be yours--if your donation gets us to our $2,000 goal!
P.S. If you don't want a phallus, another hand carried Bhutanese gift will be yours!
P.S.S. If you have trouble donating through the website, you can send a check made out to BIDC, and sent to: c/o PO Box 304, Kurtistown, HI 96760.
