Save Baby Seals

In March, the Northcoast Marine Mammal Center (NMMC) will begin its busiest seal rescue time when the Pacific Harbor Seal pupping season starts. Dozens of pups will need saving as the result of off-leash dog attacks; mothers being killed by ocean predators; and by people getting too close to the pup and scaring off the mother, that is usually nearby, but out of sight. Most of the seals will be pups that are just a few days old.
These pups need very intensive care which requires a lot of time, special formula, medication and fish. All of them require lab work to make sure they are free from disease. Some pups need Xrays or surgery. For the first few weeks they eat 5 times day!
The Harbor Seal pups will need care for approximately three months. During this time they will learn to eat fish and compete for food. Once they are nice and chubby, they will be released back into their ocean home.
It costs about $1,000 to care for just one seal pup. The NMMC is financially dependent upon generous donations from people like you to care for these helpless pups and get them ready for release back into the wild

NMMC is a 501 c (3) non-profit organization that has has been rescuing marine mammals along the Northern California coast since 1984. The facility has only one paid staff position. All animal care is done by a hardworking team of volunteers.
