My name is Becky Johnson. I am passionate about a lot of things, especially ones that are older than I. Like furniture, books, cars, clothes, music & PEOPLE! As co-founder of Astoria Vintage Hardware, that would make sense.
My respect & love for seniors stems from the amazing relationship I had with my grandparents. They were the richest people I knew. My grandmother wore a fur & was offered a full ride to Reed College (which she declined). My grandfather was a great inventor & entrepreneur. They actually had a library in their house. But it resembled the decay of Miss Havisham’s (Great Expectations). In fact, they were also the poorest people I knew, unbeknownst to me.
I humbly ask for your help in supporting a charity I am raising funds for … Astoria’s Meal on Wheels. I am competing for matching funds by an amazing local business, Fort George Brewery. My fundraising efforts need to be submitted to Fort George by Nov. 29th to win their Magnanimous Mug Award.
It would be my dream to raise $12,000. A heck of a lot of money. But our Meals on Wheels has no funding. No sponsorship. We are in a $1,000 deficit each month due to the rising cost of food & one paid staff, the cook. This extra security would help us for one year to develop an outreach plan, grant requests, sponsorship, etc.
I am the voice for the 550+ meals served at the Astoria Senior Center. An affordable, nutritious meal for $6. An engaging, social, interactive group in the newly refurbish center. I am the voice for 250+ meals provided each month to our local shut-ins. Our seniors who cannot leave their homes.
You can make a difference & save this program. $30 would pay for 5 days. $125 would pay for a month. $1500 a whole year!!! WOW. What a difference you can make. Please, no senior left behind.
