- Pacific Dharma our non profit organization headed by us, husband and wife Jorge (Nrhari das) & Barbara (bhavatarini dasi) Nijensohn, began this fundraiser in 2019. All the dairies in Hawaii were closed or closing. One in particular with over 2000 dairy cows was forced to close and get rid of their cattle. We began this fundraiser raiser to not only save the dairy cows from slaughter but change and save the paradigm of cow care and dairy in Hawaii.
- We negotiated to acquire the all the dairy cows , 2300 acre acre pasture dairy facility with processing plant but we’re unsuccessful.
- We have directly saved over 50 dairy cows and bulls from the slaughter house.
- In 2019
- brought two calves from the closed dairy to our personal residence.
- Began negotiations to square the closed dairy’s 2300 acre facility with cows and bulls, dairy, pasture and processing plant
- Saved 36 cows scheduled for slaugh
- March 2020 we broght 41 to our 100 acres on the Hamakua coast. 2021,we successfully re homed the 27 cows left at the closed dairy that were going to be sent to the slaughter house if we could not buy them.
- Now we are creating a forever home sanctuary and vedic ahimsa dairy for cows in our personal care.
- It has been a long journey with many twists and turns. Victories and defeats.
- We were negotiating to acquire all the cows (400+)at the 2300 acre closed dairy with all facility but lost
- We ended up with 41 plus cows bulls and calves whom we brought to our 100 acres.
- Winter made it inhospitable.
