In Memory of Sarita Shakya

On December 17, 2016, the world lost an intelligent, caring, selfless, and loving woman.
Sarita Shakya , 38 year old wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, was tragically killed. Sarita is a registered nurse and has been working at Scripps Mercy Hospital BHU since 2010. While working her regularly scheduled evening shift, all the staff were anxiously waiting and anticipating for the clock to turn 2323 to leave work so they can be with their loved ones who are patiently waiting for them to come home. Unfortunately, that night, Sarita didn’t make it home. After spending her shift helping patients and their families, Sarita was almost home when a suspected drunk driver jumped the median and drove toward oncoming traffic on Camino Del Norte before slamming head-on into her vehicle and killing her instantly. Sarita leaves behind her husband Peter, 4-year-old daughter Angelina, family and friends. We are all now left with a void without Sarita, especially Angelina. Sarita loved her family so much. The day before this tragedy, Sarita even posted this video of her daughter, showing her eternal love as a parent and the strong bond she shared with her:
This was a senseless and tragic event that could have been prevented. Although this message is frequently heard, it really doesn’t hit home until someone you know is hurt or killed. A donation for their family would be great to help offset costs of funeral services, but more importantly please share this story to raise awareness - start the conversation, spread the word, and stop that person from driving under the influence.
