The Bird Lady of Boone

Sarah is who we all go to when we find injured birds, bunnies or other wild creatures.  She gives the best advice to chicken keepers in our town and even volunteers with local rescue groups to care for lost and abandoned birds. She works fulltime at the Iowa State University Small Animal Hospital as vet tech specialist in exotic animals. Her articles on innovative treatment protocols for pet rabbits reptiles and birds have been published in multiple veterinary journals and she gets invited to speak at veterinary medicine conferences around the country.   She supports us with all she's got and needs help from us now. 

Sarah, Brianna (14), Christian (4) and William (7 mos.), their sweet floouf of a cat Liam, African grey parrot Dusty and their tiny flock of rescued backyard hens is asking for help to stay in the home they know and love as they heal from domestic violence. After years of abuse, Sarah saw her generational trauma for what it is and told her husband to leave. She would do better for herself and her kids without him.  I'm hopeful that together, we can help them stay safe, healthy and stable in spite of the significant challenges they face. 

Though she has won a domestic assault restraining order against her ex with full physical and legal custody of her kids, the courts will not award her any relief for the legal costs, garnishments, shut-offs and other financial disasters she continues to uncover, let alone any support for the children - until their divorce is final.  Even if the courts do give her a settlement, her ex has sworn that he'll change jobs as many times as he needs to so that she never gets a penny of his earnings.   We can't let them loose the home that she's painstakingly created for her children and their beloved pets.  We can't let that happen.
