ABOUT ME & WHAT I’M ASKING FOR
Hi, there! My name is Sarah Komjathy & I’m the writer, producer, and director of a short film (currently) called Lilly’s Lemonade. Unfortunately, the College of Visual & Performing Arts at Syracuse University does not provide students necessary funding for the films they are required to create in order to graduate. As a student and an aspiring filmmaker, spending $1,000 is not an easy financial experience to undergo. This little movie was shot this past December over the course of 2 weekends, with not only months of planning behind it but years of preparation. In the fall semester, senior film majors are expected to write, produce, & shoot the film. Next in the spring semester, we are expected to edit the film’s colors and sounds to successfully screen it in May of 2018. The most ambitious film of my career is only half way done & I need YOUR help to finish it!
SO WHAT’S THE MOVIE ABOUT?
Companionship is a strange thing in young girl's, Lilly’s, suburban neighborhood. Her boring parents’ lack of attention pushes her to find true unconditional love. The only creatures she knows that is capable of this are… dogs. Lilly’s big idea – a lemonade stand – strives to raise enough money to get the dog of her dreams. However, the locals that visit her stand will discourage Lilly by personifying of all of the negative traits of dogs and prove that entrepreneurship isn’t as easy as it seems. Life gave her lemons, she made the lemonade — now what?
WHAT'S NEEDED TO CREATE THE FILM ($$$)
1) FOOD. To feed all those hungry, hard-working actors and college kids devoting themselves as crew members.
2) Props, lots of 'em. These are amazing tools I used to create the world of my film. That lemonade stand did not get built on it's own!
3) A brand-spankin'-new hard drive to store my footage, editing & sound files.
4) Financial compensation for the dedication of four days from my awesome location manager & my lead actress, an extremely talented young girl.
5) A voiceover artist - a lovely, undiscovered, formal voice will narrate this story.
6) Equipment Insurance - a must because accidents happen!
7) Film festivals.... one of the most exciting parts of creating a film nowadays is sending it out to film festivals that will hopefully have industry professionals in the audience. If I receive more than my goal, it will all go to submitting the film to festivals. Adding festival laurels onto your resume is an excellent accomplishment for any young filmmaker!
7) Everything else in between! Your generous donations will assist in any last minute expenses. Things seriously add up on a low budget short film.
MY CREW (THE BEST PEOPLE AROUND)
This film was truly a group effort to shoot. A donation from you isn't just helping me, if the film does well at festivals it would be an amazing accomplishment for all of them. As a female filmmaker, I’m proud to say that 5 out of my 7 crew members were women. The girls, my cousin Matt, & Syracuse-native Aaron, can’t wait to plunge into an industry that is opening its eyes wider each day. Raised in New Jersey’s biggest small town, Middletown, Sarah Komjathy decided to come to Syracuse University to expand her love for creativity in film, television, and music videos. This past Spring 2017 she studied in Prague, Czech Republic at the renowned Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) where she worked as a writer, script supervisor, set dresser, and editor in her junior thesis work. As a senior in the College of Visual & Performing Arts, this project will be culmination of everything she has learned in the past four years. She bas been lucky to have support from friends & family on this career track. Now, it’s her time to show them what she's able to do with their support.
