George R.R. Martin and media personality Alexis Jones are helping us raise money and awareness about service and literacy.   On Thursday, February 7 at the Violet Crown, at 5:30 p.m. guests will enjoy an uplifting one-of-kind multi-media event that tells stories of service.

Your donation will support TWO causes!  Service and Literacy! Support the school's Annual Fund so that students can continue their community service, including weekly trips to the memory unit at a local retirement home, tutoring elementary students from all over Santa Fe with their reading through Reading is Magic, cleaning up the Santa Fe River and doing the annual 8th grade service trip to Costa Rica.

PLUS Your donation will be matched by George R.R. Martin, up to $20,000 and will go to support the literacy efforts of Opportunity Santa Fe!  Reading proficiency among Santa Fe school children is 26%.  Learning to read is critical for a child's success in school.  Help us bring the joy of reading to every child in Santa Fe!

Gifts of $200 or more can be used to sponsor a child to be a VIP at the event on February 7.  You can either tell us the child's name or we can choose a child who is served through a local reading program.  If you are interested in attending the event, a limited number of tickets will be sold through the Violet Crown's website.

Literacy is a complex issue, and no single organization, however innovative or powerful, can accomplish effective community-wide change alone.  Opportunity Santa Fe  invites nonprofits, public entities and businesses to abandon individual agendas in favor of a collective approach to improving student achievement.  Santa Fe School for the Arts & Sciences is honored to work in alignment with the Santa Fe Public Schools, May Center for Learning, Reading Quest, Santa Fe Public Libraries, Literacy Volunteers, Book Kids, and many others in support of improving reading in Santa Fe.

The $20,000 match will support the efforts of Opportunity Santa Fe and the Four Key Investments for Literacy.  To read a summary of the community-wide efforts, click here .  To read a more comprehensive report of each of the four key investments, click here .

Help Santa Fe get to ONE MILLION HOURS OF SERVICE!  Post on Facebook or Instagram the number of hours you commit to give in 2019 using the hashtags #SantaFeTalks #StoryOfService.
