Water and nutrition for Sandugan

Water and nutrition for the people of Sandugan

I’m running this fundraising campaign to create a permanent water supply and also a greenhouse for the growing of vegetables for the families in the region of  Sandugan, Siquijor Island, Philippines.

The funds will be used to drill a well to a depth of around 100’ deep into the aquifer and have it pumped up into water storage tower so enabling some 100 people in the area to have fresh running tap water. After creating this water supply the next objective is to build a greenhouse of a size ranging between 400sqm and 1,000 sqm for the cultivating of fresh vegetables to add a fresh supply of nutrition into the diet of the local population which is just none excitant at the moment.

As soon as you guys dig deep to help I will start doing test wells in varies location to find fresh water as opposed to sea water. Once we have a permanent well, water will be then piped to many locations and then on to the last stage of construction of the greenhouse. Seeds will be sourced from my home town of Sydney Australia so produce will be of a high standred.

If you do support us, God willing, it means that the basic diet of fried fish and rice will soon also be an array of different vegetables. As high blood, diabetes, anemia and arthritis is very high in this community which is all due to a lack of nutrition. Also it means that water for washing clothes, dishes, hair, cleaning teeth and showering by the bucket doesn’t have to be anymore or water carried from kilometers away every day. Growing up in the west and now living here in the Philippines it has inspired me to do this and to know that only 100 feet under the ground all these hardships can be addressed with your help.

Siquijor Island is a class 4 economy and the area around Sandugan is a class 5, meaning the wage for working up to 12hours is around $3Us a day so very little money when there is work available. 95% of the island's residents belong to the Catholic Church so religion is a big part of their lives. I have personally know some of the people from the community for just on 4yrs and have been visiting Sandugan for nearly 2yrs now and as with most Filipinos they are always happy, never complaining and always  ready for a song or a dance.
This does mean a lot to me so how about I / you / us help to enrich these people’s lives with some basic needs which we take for granted in the west…
"if you can't afford to help personally, please help spread the word."

Thanks for your time Robert Steward.
