Many of you have heard by now about my sister Erika and her husband, Andrew, losing $120,000 back in 2018 after receiving fraudulent wire transfer instructions during their escrow processes. I have decided to start this GoFundMe account in hopes of raising some money to help them during this difficult time. Their money is officially gone. Their entire life savings. They had been holding onto some glimmer of hope that the people involved in this elaborate scam would be prosecuted and that some funds would be recovered but the FBI has officially closed their case without recovering a penny. They are currently in the process of renovating the home they were able to purchase but due to the unexpected, massive financial loss and problems uncovered during demo, will be unable to finish and make the house livable at this point. Additionally, the family is working off of a single income as Erika has been on unpaid maternity leave since October of last year due to unexpected issues during pregnancy and adjusting to life with a newborn. I am asking for donations to help with renovation costs and living expenses for this hard working, well deserving family.... their story is sickening. They are victims of a truly outrageous crime. Completely unimaginable. Any help is very much appreciated!!!!

This is their story  written by Erika:
“Do you want to hear how we lost everything?
I don’t really mean everything because we have each other but we lost everything $$$. True story. This happened to us (Andrew and Erika).
2018 truly the best and worst year of our lives. In January, we lost everything we had worked so hard to save. Lost isn’t the right word, we were literally robbed of our life savings. January is also when I found out I was pregnant. Lots of mixed emotions as you can see.
Andrew and I found our dream home fixer upper. We had been looking and saving for years. We had made multiple offers without success on homes in our desired community. Feeling discouraged, we were delighted, shocked, excited and totally blessed when an offer was accepted. It was even better than we had dreamed!
Fast forward 3 months-It was a Tuesday, closing day!! It had been a nightmare of all nightmares during the escrow process (seller was extremely difficult... you wouldn’t believe the craziness, that’s another story entirely) but our hard work was finally paying off and we should have the keys to our new home at 3pm on this particular Tuesday. I was extra excited because I was going to announce to Andrew that we were pregnant. What was supposed to be one of the best days of our lives quickly turned into one of the worst.
Escrow called Andrew around 2pm that Tuesday and asked “will we see the funds (20% down payment) today?” Confused Andrew responded “Teri, I wired the funds over a week ago...”
Yep, we received fraudulent wire transfer instructions and all of our money was GONE. It’s like handing cash to a criminal. The fraudulent escrow account had been cleared and the money had moved from one account to another until it eventually went overseas and disappeared for good. So disgusting. We felt like complete suckers, failures, idiots, totally violated, tricked, depressed, stressed, exhausted, literally sick. I cannot even describe the level of panic. The only mantra that helped me survive the experience was “at least I’m not planning a funeral”.
We are alive. We are blessed. We still have the beach home fixer upper but our lives have been totally rocked by this loss. Thank you to those that have reached out and for the extra prayers. Please let this be a lesson to all."
