San Diego Bayfair Race Coverage

Hey there, Race Fans! Jody here. I have been ruminating on a lot of things, and thought I’d touch base and share my thoughts with you, and made a request. I’m trying to get things together to head for San Diego, and I am looking for your help! Intrigued about why and what’s in it for you? Read on :)

The season has dwindled down to one final race in San Diego next month. And there are a lot of story lines to follow. With a dominating lead in national high points, it will be virtually impossible for Jimmy Shane and the Homestreet Bank Miss Madison team to do anything other than wrap up the highpoints championship pretty early in the weekend. But the rest of the lineup isn’t quite as set. After missing the season opener in Guntersville, defending national champion Andrew Tate is in fourth place in the Jones Racing Delta RealTrac, only a heat finish difference behind Burt Henderson in the Spirit of Detroit. And of course, the Grand Prix World boats will be competing for the Secretary of the Navy Cup for the first time in nearly a century. All in all, it ought to be a great weekend of boat racing.

So here’s where it gets interesting. I’ve been thinking about making a run over there, and spending some time providing the same race updates and photos that you’ve gotten used to when I am in Tri-Cities or at the other sites I have covered for this site. Work commitments will keep me in Colorado through Saturday night, which means that if I can make it to San Diego, it’s a day trip only on Sunday.  But without hotels, it makes the trip a whole lot more economical. If we hurry, the flights are affordable. The round trip from Denver is only $168, and I can be in town in time to catch the entire days’ worth of action. Ironically, it’s also $168 to rent the camera equipment that I was planning to take as well. Add in a little bit for tickets and meals, and the whole trip is still only $500.

And I want to use that as a reward for the folks that help me reach this goal.
