Move Sam's Story to the Stage

Donation protected
Being gay has become more acceptable in the past decade but young people who are gay still feel rejected, isolated, and emotionally challenged by the prospects of coming out. According to The Family Project: "LGB youth who come from highly rejecting families are 8.4 times as likely to have attempted suicide as LGB peers who reported no or low levels of family rejection."

Sam’s Story addresses the emotions that many feel when trying to discover and accept themselves. After coming out of the closet, Sam is sent to live with his uncle who tries to force him to be straight. On the other hand, Ryan who is fully supported by his mother struggles with his own negative self-talk. Sam and Ryan meet at Camp Arrow and together they discover love and the courage to be themselves

I believe it is important to continue to bring awareness to the challenges young people who are gay face. Sharing our stories is the only way to create a deeper understanding and compassion between each other. After spending the last year writing, editing, doing readings and workshops I am ready to create a full production of the play. I am asking for financial support to stage the play at SUNY Potsdam in Spring 2019.

Not only is a play going to be produced but we hope to make an education curriculum that revolves around the book and bring it to local middle and high schools to teach and expose students to the sensitive subject of homosexuality.  After the in-class curriculum, the students would be able to see the stage play production based on the book.

Producing a play is no easy task and requires a lot of time, patience, and hard work. Funds will be used for the following items:

Set Expenses
Costume Expenses
Prop Expenses
Lighting, Sound and Technology Expenses
Advertising Expenses
Theatre Rental Expenses
Rehearsal Expenses
Administrative Expenses
Printing Expenses
Program Expenses

Production costs can become expensive so every dollar helps! Thank you so much for your support.
