Sam Vang - In Support Of His Cancer Fight

Donation protected

Early this year we received heartbreaking news that our Dad, Somsanouk (Sam) Vang had somehow developed lung cancer. Our Dad is someone who looks after himself and has always lived a clean and healthy lifestyle, so as you can imagine, this has come as a great shock to our family. We were hopeful that by catching it early that he would have a good chance of overcoming this. He had surgery in June and as precautionary step decided to also have chemotherapy to try and eliminate the cancer. Unfortunately, post chemotherapy scans in late October indicated that the cancer is aggressive and has metastasized to the bones in his back, rib and hips. The growth in his back, in particular, is causing him debilitating pain, making it next to impossible to get any proper sleep; a full hour of sleep is a good day. Dad is due to have radiation this January, followed by chemotherapy and immunotherapy to extend the time he has with us all. If all goes as well as hoped, he could have up to two more years with us. We know our family and friends have been saddened by this news as only two months ago we were expecting him to be in remission, but we are determined to fight this together as a family and make the most of the time we do have no matter how much time that turns out to be.

Our Dad is a person who is full of love and is always there to lend a helping hand. He has made many sacrifices, wanting to give us the best opportunities in life. Now to see him unable to enjoy the sports he used to love to do and the food he used to love eat, has been very hard. We decided to set up a GoFundMe account to ease our parents’ financial stress, so Mum can just focus on getting our Dad feeling better. All contributions, no matter how big or small, would be accepted with grateful hearts.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Even if you are not able to give, your good wishes and prayers would be greatly appreciated. Dad has always been someone who enjoys bringing people together to share stories and learn from one another. It would be wonderful along with your donation that if you knew our Dad, to share your memories with him as we know that he will enjoy reading it. Perhaps a miracle will be granted and he will be with us to meet the grandchildren that we know he already loves in his heart.

Time is truly precious. We hope you are also spending yours with those you cherish.

Sincerely,

Nathan, Grace, and Aaron Vang
