Sakuramai Toronto

We are Sakuramai Toronto, a performing group based in Toronto, Canada that specializes in Japanese "Yosakoi" dance! 

Yosakoi is a unique and energetic style of dance, which uses original music, choreography, and elaborate costumes to perform down open streets in large parades. Hugely popular in Japan, there are thousands of teams across the country. Our goal is to bring this unique and exciting style of dance to Canadians to better their understanding of Japanese culture.

Since 2008, Sakuramai has been lighting up the stage at events across Canada, including Japan Canada Festival, International Tourism and Travel Shows in Toronto and Montreal, Japanese major league baseball night at the Rogers Center and events at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre.

This August, as a milestone celebration for our 10 years of activity, we are challenging ourselves to step outside of our home base of Toronto, and to perform for the first time as "Sakuramai Canada" at the Harajuku-Omotesando Super Yosakoi Festival in Tokyo! It is one of the largest festivals in Japan, bringing together over 100 teams, tens of thousands of spectators. We will be taking a team of more than 40 people to Tokyo to participate, and are honoured to represent Canada, to share our love of dance, and to foster Japan-Canada relations.

We wish to encourage Canadians to experience the joys of yosakoi dance in its most authentic form at the festival in Tokyo this summer 2019. But we don't want to stop there! Our ambitions are to return to Japan again in the near future to provide even more opportunities for Canadians to experience these lifelong memories. However to do this, we still need financial support to cover some of our most primary expenses!

By supporting us here, you are helping us cover the expenses of our costumes, accessories and original music that we will need to have a successful performance in Tokyo this summer. You are also helping to make our goals for future opportunities and activities possible!
