YWAM

Hi friends. As most of you know I have decided to postpone my college experience for a year so that I can join the YWAM team in Kona for a semester. If you do not know what YWAM us I'll give you a brief synopsis. It stands for Youth With A Mission, and that is exactly what it is. There are hundreds of bases around the world (I just so happened to pick the one in Hawaii ) and they all serve as a training center for us students for our first few months with YWAM.
The first half, the training, is focused on learning how to hear from the Holy Spirit - a discipline that I have not been well practiced in - and overall growing in your relationship with Christ. Pretty simple, but NOT easy. The hardest part about this time is going to be listening to all of the different beliefs that people have. Not that that in itself is hard, but I'm thinking I'm going to go through a lot of time in questioning and wrestling with some of the things I've been taught all my life, which is not necessarily a bad thing. I'm excited to see how God challenged my thoughts and causes my heart to trust him more.
The second half, after all the training, is the outreach. This part I really don't know what to expect. they don't really tell you where you're going for the outreach until the time comes. This is where the hearing from the Holy Spirit really comes in. The leaders of the DTS (discipleship training school - sorry, I forgot to tell you that's what it's called ) pray and let God lead. I may not know where I'm going, but I do know that I'm signed up for a type of photojournalism outreach called Voice for the Voiceless. I don't know what it's all going to entail, but I can tell you I am really excited about it!
