SAFE SHELTERS

$8,820 of $25,000 goal

Raised by 71 people in 3 months
While President Trump is fanning flames around his manufactured “state of emergency” at the border, the real crisis is the violence and inhumane treatment many asylum-seekers are experiencing south of border in Tijuana.

Having fled their homes in Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua to escape human rights abuses, these asylum-seekers are now living in a hellish limbo because of the U.S. government.

There is an extreme shortage of shelters in Tijuana, leaving many asylum-seekers on the streets with little money and no access to lawyers, resources and other basic needs. Existing shelters and support centers are overwhelmed and  ill-equipped to handle this growing crisis.

LGBTQ+ asylum seekers in particular are facing especially horrible treatment. The violence of street gangs and opportunists is a constant threat for this vulnerable and growing population who are afraid for their safety and uncertain of their future.

SAFE SHELTERS Inc. is a newly formed U.S. Non Profit currently on the ground in Tijuana, committed to ensuring the safety of these asylum seekers.

SAFE SHELTERS’ top priority is supporting the LGBTQ+ asylum seekers within Caravan 3 that have recently arrived in Tijuana. This group formed to protect and support each other, having also taken in families with special needs kids that were traveling alone. The group’s safety and security is paramount.  Having already escaped homophobia and hostility in their home countries, they’ve been subjected to violence while en route to the border. They were attacked in both Guatemala and Mexico, and many were injured.

We cannot abandon those who have traveled to the border seeking protection from persecution and violence.

We need your help TODAY to address the immediate needs of these asylum seekers.

SAFE SHELTERS secured Casa de Luz, a house in a safe neighborhood in Tijuana away from danger and hostility, to provide safety, security and support to this group.

Your donation will help our SAFE SHELTERS team on the ground in Tijuana support this group facing extreme and immediate danger and uncertainty.

We need to raise $25,000 immediately to support the following urgent needs:

•   On-site trauma counselor assessing medical and emotional needs for asylum seekers at Casa de Luz

•   Essential improvements to Casa de Luz including:

•   A new boiler

•   Security doors

•   Basic bedding

•  Clothing

•   Food

•   Toiletries

Our campaign has now expanded to fund programs of crucial interventions for this growing population, including trauma counseling, medical and dental care and more.

Together we can make a huge difference in the lives of asylum seekers who need our immediate support.

PLEASE DONATE NOW to SAFE SHELTERS. We need your help to help these good people. Together.

Safe Shelters, Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization registered in the state of New York.  All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
