College Tuition Fee

My name is Kyle Martin Pascual and I'm a graduating senior at Eagle Rock High School. Ever since I first stepped on America's soil in 2013, I've always wanted to make a change. My parents sacrificed all of their belongings in the Philippines in order to escape the oppressive environment,  open up opportunities for their 3 children, and provide company to my last living grandmother who has fought and beaten cancer twice. Going into a new country, it sure was not easy to adapt to its unique culture. I had to learn two completely new languages at once - English and Spanish - while taking numerous College-level AP classes in 4 years. I knew I had to do my best in order to achieve my goals. So I devoted a huge part of myself to Eagle Rock High School. I joined the Volleyball program and am currently the captain of one of the best teams in the city. After only 4 years of being on the team, I have spent an accumulated time of around 3-4 thousand hours playing Volleyball. Despite the tremendous hours, I was still able to get a cumulative GPA of 4.3. I was also a part of the Class Officers from freshmen to senior year. I served hours of community service through key club and played a vital role as a Division Spirit Coordinator.  After taking 10+ AP classes, I was given the AP Scholar Award for passing several AP exams. Overall, I was able to push myself past my limit despite the obstacles I had to face throughout.  Now, it's time to continue my journey in the College level.

However, my current status hinders me from pursuing my dreams. I am an international student holding an F-2 visa(dependent of an F-1) which I can later on switch to an F-1(International student visa) when I attend college. Colleges of all sorts, including community colleges and Cal State Universities, triple the tuition I would have to pay to attend their institution. A community college would cost me an extra $200 per unit on top of the $50 per unit fee while a CSU would cost me an extra $400 per unit and additional non-resident tuition fee on top of the resident tuition fee. Coming from a low income family background with a net income of ~$35,000 in a household of 6 people, I certainly can not pay for any sort of public college in the United States. My visa does not let me work in the US and makes me inelegible for Federal loans which makes it nearly impossible for me to come up with the money. Unfortunately, I also do not get any kind of financial aid; FAFSA is only for US residents, and the Dream Act is only for undocumented students.  So for these reasons, I reach out to every single one of you to help me pursue my dreams in the first year of college.

If the goal is met, I would be able to attend the California State University, Northridge. They would charge me ~$15,000 in tuition fees. Though my parents could pay around $5,000, I am hoping for possible scholarships and donations from local businesses which I wrote letters to. Every single penny will be spent on my tuition. I will not pay for any other fees for books or room and board. I will be responsible for finding ways to access information either from borrowed books or online. I will either commute or find a place to live in around the area, possibly with a friend. Donations of any amount is wholeheartedly appreciated whether it be $1, $5, or $100. Please help me continue the hard work I have started in Eagle Rock High School on to Cal State Northridge. It will be a dream come true that I will truly cherish forever.
