Fighting to Live

Amanda Smith-Erickson, an educator in the NLRSD, has been teaching children for ten years. However, she was new to NLRSD when she was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo surgery to remove 30% of her liver, which included a 10.3cm mass. She was denied short term disability because NLRSD has a pre existing clause on the policy for new employees, so her time off was unpaid. Even though the school board approved her time off work for recovery, they recently decided to not renew her teaching contract because of her illness. This results in Amanda losing her insurance and her cancer policy, which pays a lot on her medical bills. She is not only having to fight for her life, but she now has the additional stress from loss of employment, & loss of insurance benefits. I do not personally know Amanda, but I could not sit here and act like any of this is right. As a result, I’m making this GoFundMe page for her in hopes it helps relieve stress so she can concentrate on her health.
