Help Lida, Davin & Sreymean do the J. Pictet moot
Donation protected
Sreymean, Lida and Davin are three bright and highly motivated Cambodian law students from the Phnom Penh Royal University of Law and Economics (RULE), who have been selected to participate in the highly competitive 2019 edition of the Jean Pictet Competition of international law. It is a unique, challenging and really fun competition where students are asked to enter into a variety of role plays imitating real life situations where international humanitarian law applies. The idea is to train students in applying what they learnt at the university to real life situations. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the students to put what they learnt into practice in real life situations, practice their oral and argumentative skills and meet students from all over the world. The competition will take place between 30 March-6 April 2019 in Obernai, near Strasbourg in France.
When a team is selected to participate in the competition, which lasts for a week, the accommodation costs and meals are covered by the organizers. Teams must pay for the registration fees, as well as the travel expenses. Unfortunately, the funding that the university teams used to get the previous years to participate in the competition did not go through this year. While the organizers and the university are covering most of their costs, Sreymean, Lida and Davin still need to find funds to cover two of the three plane tickets from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to Strasbourg, France, which would cost about 2,300-2,800 USD, to attend the competition.
Léa is a legal professional from France, who has been in Cambodia for several years. She participated in the Jean Pictet Competition in 2006 and has been working in international criminal law since then. Since she moved to Cambodia, she has been regularly helping law students preparing for international law related moot competitions. This year, she met Sreymean, Lida, Davin, and their coach, Panhapol, in the context of the Jean Pictet Competition’s preparation.
Sreymean, Lida, Davin and Léa are fundraising locally here in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and also decided to try crowdfunding for parts of the amount. Léa is the one organizing the crowdfunding on behalf of the students. Since the platform does not allow us to include a Cambodian address, the campaign is marked as based in France - we used Léa’s home address there.
The funds raised will be transferred to Léa’s bank account in France, who will then go with the students to purchase the plane tickets on their behalf.
We hope that you could help them to get this incredible experience through a donation. Every amount will help.
Thank you so much!
