2016Lesvos Syrian Refugee Aid trip
Donation protected
My name is Joshua Moroles, I am from Dublin, California and I was a United States Naval Rescue Swimmer stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on USS Halsey DDG97 for 4 years. I have just recently completed my time in the Navy and now I want to use my training to help others who really need it. I have recently been accepted by the International Surf Lifesaving Association (ISLA) to join them on their Syrian refugee aid mission to the island of Lesvos, Greece on January 4th-12th.
For many months, the coast of Lesvos in Greece, has been the epicenter of thousands of Syrian Refugees seeking safety and shelter. Unfortunately for a countless too many, the trip across the sea has ended in untold drownings and deaths. The International Surf Lifesaving Association is calling for experienced lifeguards and SAR swimmers to lend a hand. Lifeguard Hellas (Greek Lifeguards) have been receiving support from volunteers all over the globe.
This trip is designed to provide additional support for the first few weeks of January as they work to ensure beaches are staffed as consistently as possible. For me, this will be the first of many and I am eager to finally be able to lend a hand and make a difference.
The money I am asking for will be going toward the donation to The International Surf Lifesaving Association and the travel costs (flight, boarding and food) of my mission. I am so honored to be able to take part and make a difference in such a global epidemic helping hundreds of Syrian refugees arrive to Greece safely.
Thank you for all of your support helping me make this mission become a reality.
