Airman First Class Porcher, was born November 4th 1996. She was educated in Georgetown SC. Her excitement and desire to serve the country, motivated her to graduate a year early. She graduated as an honor student and was a great basketball player during her high school career. She was anxious to pursue a career in the United States Air Force Air National Guard while attending Clemson University. 

In the early morning hours of June 7, 2016 while enroute to McEntire Joint National Guard Base, where Jamia was training as a Security Augmentee, her life was changed. As she avoided an accident with a semi truck that was drifting into her lane, another driver was not as fortunate. After witnessing the accident,  which disabled the car involved, Jamia stopped to help. Along with the truck driver, she was able to assist with pushing the vehicle from the highway. While standing on the side of the road Jamia was struck by another car. 

After the horrific accident, Mia was hospitalized for 3 months, where she battled everyday for her life. It left her as a quadriplegic. This once active, independent, ambitious young lady must now depend on constant help from her mother, sibliings, medical staff, family, and friends for her round the clock care. 

This has proven to be quite difficult in her current living situation. Mia, along with her mother and two sibliings, live in a rented mobile home with limited handicap accessiblitiy. The house is not suited for the mobility needs of a disabled person.  Wider doorways for her wheel chair, space to house the supplies and medical equipment needed to aid her are all necessary for her new daily routines.
