Happy and healthy Baby Daniel, November 2018

On Thursday, February 21, my coworker Cassie got a message that her infant son had just had a seizure. Upon arrival at The Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk, they found that he had suffered a trauma which lead to increased intracranial pressure, then to a stroke. In order to protect Daniel's precious brain, the doctors removed part of his skull to attempt to relieve the pressure. 

Daniel is slowly healing, but not out of the woods. His stay at CHKD is predicted to be at least 2 weeks in the ICU. His parents are spending night and day at his bedside, which means missing work and spending money on necessities like food and gas back and forth. Even when he comes home, there will be time missed at work, not to mention the hospital bills, doctor bills, lab bills, anesthesia bills, physical therapy, and so-on. 

Cassie is a tough woman. Her pregnancy was tough. She was severely sick throughout much of it. Before she was able to come back to work from maternity leave, she had an emergency appendectomy, and Daniel had a surgery to repair a hernia. This family has been through so much, and they are fighters. But the stress of worrying about where the extra money will come from to pay for the care, not to mention the missed time from work (most of which will be without pay) is something their family and friends would like to help to alleviate. 

Any amount helps, no matter how little.
