Ryan's Cancer Journey

Donation protected
On January 3rd, after experiencing some stomach pain for a couple weeks, Ryan and Desiree received the phone call no one ever wants to get.  "You have masses in your liver, kidneys, pancreas, and spleen.  We need to test for cancer."  Every test going forward, from blood-work to ultrasounds to PET scans to CT scans to a biopsy...confirmed their worst fear.  Cancer.  The whirlwind has been non-stop.  And many of you have been going through this journey with them, praying and encouraging them along the way.  Whether you are following them through their posts on Facebook, or by reading their blog at ryanscancerjourney.blogspot.com, they are so grateful for the support!

We ALSO believe in a loving, gracious, all-powerful God!  The work they've seen Him do through this is nothing short of a miracle!  If you haven't read the posts (and the comments), please do.  And their journey is not over...

As of January 24, Ryan was released from an 8 night stay at the hospital, with some nights in the ER, some in pain management, and some in the cancer ward.  He's had every scan you can think of, vials and vials of blood work done, and lots of medication.  We praise God that radiation and chemotherapy treatment are not needed for his kind of cancer at this point.  The "neuroendocrine tumors" the doctors found can be removed.  BUT more blood work, another biopsy, an 8 hour surgery taking the masses out of his body, 2 week recovery in the hospital, and 2 month recovery at home spells a long, dangerous, and expensive road ahead.

They are thankful to have insurance, but still have high deductibles and partial coverage after that.  The average stay in a hospital is $2,000 per night, not including scans, tests, and surgery.  Plus Ryan will be unable to help Des at home for a while, so will probably need some hired help during that time.  After the dust settles, Ryan will still need to go in for more testing and scans to make sure they got everything, and will be on blood thinning medication for a while, if not his whole life, since they found a blood clot in his lungs.

Multiple people have reached out to help them, but it's very hard and humbling to have to ask for financial help.  We don't know what the final expenses will be for everything.  We don't know what the ongoing costs will be for the rest of this year, and for years to come.  However, we wanted to set a goal to help in any way we can for Ryan and Desiree at this time.  If you feel led to give, we thank you so much.  If you are supporting them in thoughts and prayers, we are very appreciative.  More importantly, we trust God will provide exactly what they need, as He has always done in the past.

We pray God's blessings on you and look forward to the continued glory God will get, even in the midst of this struggle.  "God's strength is made perfect in our weakness." - 2 Corinthians 12
