Ryan's Fight Against Leukemia

At 2am on August 8th, 29-year-old Ryan Kuhnau drove himself to the St. Peter's Hospital emergency room with severe neck and back pain. The last thing he expected was that by 6am he would be admitted and moved to the cancer floor. After a quick diagnosis of a rare blood disease called Acute Monocytic Leukemia, Ryan was transported to UW Medical Center where he will receive some of the top cancer care in the nation. With an 85% solarity level of leukemia in his bone marrow, August 12th, 2018 will begin Day 1 of his highly intensive chemotherapy treatment regime to essentially wipe out his entire system. Ryan faces multiple rounds of chemotherapy, months of blood transfusions on an every-other-day basis, and potentially bone marrow transplant down the road. We are thankful that Ryan was offered a rare opportunity to participate in a clinical study, offering the attention of top notch doctors from around the country. This is going to be the fight of all fights- but we know Ryan has the strength to conquer it.   Ryan is a career Wildlife Specialist for the USDA and has worked for the WA/AK Program since 2014. Prior to that he worked as a technician for the NWRC in Montana. He is an avid sportsmen and when he isn't working, you can find him in the woods hunting, fishing on the bay, or raising poultry. His passion for wildlife and the outdoors has taken Ryan all over the country, where he has made friends from all walks. For all of the wonderful people that are looking for a way to help ease the pain and burden of this nightmare for Ryan, we have created this gofundme account. While we have to say we are SO thankful for the outpouring of love and support from everyone, having in-person visitors is NOT the best thing for Ryan until further notice. Within a few days, Ryan will have virtually NO immune system and will be very susceptible to illness. We cannot run the risk of complications and ask that no one come to the hospital at this time. Ryan will be out of work for an indefinite amount of time and will reside at UWMC in Seattle for at least a month at minimum. As you can imagine, medical bills are only the tip of the iceberg. Ryan will also have ongoing personal bills and expenses, transportation costs, etc. Anything you can contribute to help alleviate that stress is so appreciated! Even if you cannot make a contribution, we ask that you please take a moment to SHARE this campaign, and PLEASE keep Ryan in your thoughts and prayers. He will need all our love and support while he kicks this things ass!! Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts! (Disclaimer: This campaign names Ryan's amazing aunt Linda Howard as the beneficiary as she will be helping Ryan coordinate and access the funds raised directly.)
