Ryan’s Bone Marrow Failure testing in Pittsburgh
Donation protected
Ryan has been considered a "bleeder" since he was 9 months old. It wasn't until recently with insurance change, he changed physicians to Upmc Childrens Hospital in Pittsburgh. The hematologist there decided to run a genetic test on Ryan. Unfortunately, it wasn't what we were hoping to hear. Ryan has a mutated Gene called RunX1 which is giving Ryan a 40 percent chance of developing leukemia. This mutated Gene has been the cause of the chronic low platelet count, the inability to clot, and chronic bruising his whole life. It was then recommended that we see a predisposition children's cancer doctor. Our appointment was last Thursday. We then received more bad news. Ryan is in or has bone marrow failure. We are now scheduled to see a bone marrow failure specialist for a consult to discuss a bone marrow transplant or continuing following up with biopsies.
