Ryan's Hemorrhagic Stroke Medical Expenses

$2,000 of $5,000 goal

Tuesday, May 14, 2019 Ryan was at work at Game Stop and started to feel nauseous and was throwing up. A co-worker found Ryan passed out in the bathroom. They called 911 and the paramedics transported him to Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. They did a MRI and found what they believed to be a hemorrhagic stroke (basically bleeding in the brain). Ryan was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital for more care. When he got to St. Cloud he had hemorrhaging in the brain. At 11pm that night the doctors did surgery to insert a tube to help relieve the pressure on his brain. Surgery went well. Ryan knew his mom Mary and Jeff after waking up.

We are attempting to help Ryan offset some of his medical expenses due to the lengthy hospital stay.  We started with $5000 since it seemed like a reachable amount.  If we meet that goal we will raise the amount.  As you are aware hospital stays are very expensive, especially when most of it is in an ICU environment.

Our goal is to offset Ryan's' Medical expenses since he is unable to work and has no income.  We started with $5000 because this seemed like a goal we could reach.  If we do reach that goal we will raise the amount.  As you are aware hospitals are expensive especially when you are in an ICU environment.

We will be posting updates as we receive them.  Just click on the 'updates' link above.

Ryan was energetic today. For PT they took him on a walk outside. By the time PT got him back to his room, he was so exhausted he had to take a nap. He is eating better and talking more. All good news.

Sounds like Mom is meeting with the doctor and social worker around 8:00 am tomorrow to discuss a timeline of Ryan's discharge. Sounds like the doctors think he is headed in the right direction. Hopefully he isn't up there too much longer.

Thursday at 8am Ryan went into surgery and they placed a shunt in his head. It’s there for life now. We just have to watch for signs of infection, then he will have to go in and get it cleaned. Once his hair grows out you won’t be able to see it because it is under the skin. It will just be a bump on his head.

He was in good spirits but still in pain. It was decided that when he gets out he will go to Mom and Jeff’s house for a while so he can be under 24 hour watch. He will do his outpatient therapy either at St. Gabriel’s in Little Falls or they will have to drive him into St. Cloud. His only other choice was to go to the VA for his therapy. We don’t want him there

He will have to take a driver test before he can drive on his own again. He hated that.

He is still up and walking with a cane now. Speech therapy comes in to help work on his memory.

Talked to Mom last night for an update. Sounds like Ryan is doing well. They put the piece of his skull back in. Removed the catheter and drainage tubes. He is able to move around on his own. Needs some assistance still on walking but is able to use the bathroom.

Still doing PT daily. He continues to have issues with speech but his memory is getting better and better.

Mom has been busy and hasn't been up there since Monday. She is going to try to get up there again this week but is busy this weekend. I can only imagine how exhausted she is.

I've received some comments offline about these updates. I know some of you are reading them daily. Thanks for all your support and I'll keep reaching out to Mom to stay updated.

Friday they contacted mom with the results of a MRI that they had previously done on Ryan. They found a lesion on Ryan's brain. They said it wasn't anything to worry about, but that they wanted to operate and remove it.

So yesterday at 6am they took Ryan down to prep him for the surgery. He went into surgery at 7:30am yesterday. Sounds like everything went very well. They even put the piece of skull back in. They sent the growth out for biopsy. Hopefully they figure something out.

Sorry for the short update. Mom was just finishing lunch and was waiting for Ryan to come out of recovery. I was in the middle of something yesterday when mom called, so I need to call her back. I'll post more later.
