Ryan McDonald battling Leukemia
In October 2016 her 15 year old son (28/12/01) was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Ryan has been diagnosed with the rare form of leukaemia which is biphenotypic leukaemia.
Leading up to October 2016 Leanne and her son were not aware he had the disease.
Their lives were changed beyond comprehension.
Everything she had dreamed of for her children has changed forever.
Their hearts break every day for their son/brother watching him go through the treatment and pain every day.
Each year in Australia more than 300 people are diagnosed with leukaemia however the form of leukaemia Ryan as is very rate and accounts for only 0/3% of all cancers diagnosed.
Leanne relocated to Adelaide in October 2016 and flies her children back and forth from Alice Springs and Darwin to Adelaide to support Ryan.
He is currently going through chemotherapy which had made him extremely ill.
Because Ryan’s disease has progressed quickly he has had a number of chemotherapy treatments which are not working
Their last hope is a bone marrow transplant and his brother is the exact match.
This major operation will be done in Sydney in April 2017 and Ryan is considered high risk.
Should the operation be successful Ryan will need to be in Sydney for 3 months then go back to Adelaide for further treatment before coming back to Darwin.
This is extremely stressful for Leanne and her family and has also placed a huge financial burden on her to pay for her children living in Alice Springs and Darwin as well as spend every day with her son in Adelaide. Due to being his full time carer she is unable to work.
As a single mother she would be extremely grateful for any financial support.
