I am writing this with a broken heart tonight. I was just given the news that my very sweet little Celia Hope was diagnosed with Cancer. Every parents worst nighmare. Her parents Katie and Justin Furtado are best friends of my husband Nick and I. I will forever be grateful to sweet Celia for bringing our two families together. Our girls were both born with Down Syndrome and Katie being the amazing person she is reached out to me and we have been the best of friends ever sense.
CELIA'S STORY
Celia was admitted to Boston Childrens Hospital on 4/7/2015 because she had not been walking for a few weeks. On 4/9 & 4/10, she had an MRI and bone-biopsies of her lower spine to determine the cause of a possible infection. Celia went on antibiotics while awaiting test results. She was moved to the ICU on 4/10 to watch her breathing closely because she was having such difficulty keeping her oxygen levels up. 4/13...still waiting for pathology results because it was over the weekend. Celias O2 levels were still low so she was switched from a CPAP machine to a BIPAP which is more forced O2 delivery and supports both inhale/exhale. She is being kept lightly sedated so she can be easily woken if needed, but its best to keep her resting and let all the medicines get to work.
4/14/2015- The lab results came back, and Katie and Justin were just told that Celia has a form of cancer. It is either Leukemia or Lymphoma. They will do a bone marrow test likely on Thursday, and then a spinal fluid test on Friday. Then they will know the exact condition/type of cancer, and the course of treatment to get her back to 100%.
As you can imagine the stress of recieving this type of news has to be unthinkable. I am setting up this fundraising page to try to help them reduce some financial stress. As i would imagine neither one of them will be able to work while Celia goes through treatment and sister Ava needs to be cared for as well. I am HOPEful everyone can donate just a few dollars and help my dear friends out in this time of need. Sending lots of love and positive thoughts.
