Tom's Medical Trip to Atlanta

Tom's story starts when he was 35, and playing softball on June 19, 2012. A ground ball bounced up and hit him in the forehead. As a result, he suffered a severe concussion, and lost the use of his legs. Tom was confined to a wheelchair and was paralyzed for almost 3 months.
His concussion issues returned in September 2013 and haven’t gone away since. This caused him to lose his job, as he was unable to work or drive.
After exhausting all available treatments and medical help in Newfoundland, his doctors sent him to the Carrick Brain Center in Atlanta Georgia. After 2 separate trips, he started improving greatly.
A few months ago, his symptoms returned to the point he could no longer do the simplest daily activities. On April 1, 2015, he suffered a major setback, as he started experiencing seizures. He spent 10 days in the hospital and 5 days on life support. These seizures are a result of continued stress on the brain from the concussion. After making so much progress in these past few months, Tom has yet another long road to recovery.
He needs to go to Atlanta again for more treatment. There is nowhere in Canada to receive such medical help. These trips are costly, and are not covered at all by our province's medical plan or any insurance. Each trip costs him upwards of $15,000. I’m certain you can only imagine the financial burdens that are being faced, with no work, and this being his third trip.
I had the pleasure of growing up with Tom, and he is a good friend. He is a valued member of our community, and I have worked side by side with him on various events. He regularly volunteers his time with softball, hockey, and other organizations. He’s a good man who deserves a break, and needs our help. So let’s pull together and help Tom and his family out!
