Help get our RV moving again!

We had planned on being in Florida with family for Thanksgiving. Everything that has gone wrong, did go wrong and we need your help.

At the end of July, my wife and I sold everything we had, packed up, and moved into our used (but new-to-us) RV and set out on an adventure. The plan was to head towards Florida to visit family for Thanksgiving, then up the coast to North Carolina to visit more family. Beyond that, we had no plans.

Things did not go as planned.

On October 12th while driving through Bowling Green, KY, our transmission went out. We thought it was just a dirty filter, so we checked that first. It was much worse though. We found a mechanic online who would come to us to fix our transmission, and he'd do it cheaply since we were in such a bind. We got towed to a campground nearby and have been stuck here ever since.

The mechanic came out after we'd been here a week to check it out. When he opened it up, there was lots of metal shavings, which meant metal was grinding and parts were damaged. He took the tranmission back with him to rebuild it.

He was supposed to bring it back within a week and install it, everything ready to go. I contacted him daily to see how it was going. Everything seemed fine for the first week, but then we were done with our reservation, the excuses started.

First there was something new that needed to be repaired, but he swore he'd get it done. Then when he said it was done, he kept having reasons to not be able to bring it back. Finally, I told him to just bring it back and I'd deal with getting it installed. At this point, I thought it was all ready to be put back in.

One week before Thanksgiving, he brought the transmission back. It was completely disassembled and didn't look like he had fixed anything. I was angry, saddened, and felt like I had been taken advantage of. All the money we had saved for repairing the transmission was gone to pay for us staying here for so long.

The transmission is at a new mechanic now, a reputable local shop with a BBB A+ rating. They said there are parts missing that were critical for our vehicle. So now they are hunting for parts, trying to get us on the road. I've been calling them twice a week to see what the progress is, and they are still searching. The original mechanic did bring most of the parts back, but did literally nothing except take it apart. I have a feeling he found himself in deeper than he thought and was just buying time until he could find someone else to fix it for him.

At this point, we are running out of money because we've had to pay so much to stay here this length of time. We ran out of propane before Thanksgiving. We had to spend money on heat tape for our hose since it has been below freezing most nights. We never intended to be at this campground at all, and now we've been here for almost ten weeks. We just want to get back on the road and get to Florida at some point so we can see our families again.

We are asking for your help to fix the transmission and get us close enough to even for all the money we've lost being stuck here. We've had to ask for rides to the nearest dollar store to get food and supplies, we've used our meager income and savings to pay for the campground fees. We are running out of money and time.

Hello! We added a new video showing you the snowy land and our RV with the transmission and RV parts underneath our RV. We are really hoping to get out of here next Monday. We'll try to update with more videos, but it's snowing and cold and so we will see take it day by day. Please share!

Check out these snowy pics. The first one, well it's self explanatory. The second is our split pipe! No running water, the campground will get it fixed as soon as they can. And the ice that Mother Nature produces, kind of makes me believe in the beauty on earth in the midst of frustration. -Tiffany B.
All you need is love!
Pipe burst, no running water. Winter.
The ice is kind of beautiful though.

Hi all, this is Tiffany, Eric's wife. Just wanted to post another little update for you guys.

The transmission is done, but we are trying to figure out funds. We still have no heat or hot water, we are in desperate need of either propane funds (delivery) or a hot water heater funds.

The cold is especially hard for me due to a chronic pain condition. I usually use CBD oil for it and right now, I am out of funds for it. I use Hempconnex, they seem to work the best. Unfortunately, my blog isn't bringing in much money at this time, anything we get from it we use on food.

I was recently denied health insurance and food assistance due to not physically being in our home state, which I don't totally understand since we are traveling and not living here in KY, but I guess the state has their reasons.

Anyway, money is tight and food is limited. Cat food and litter are needed too.

We are making do. We have amazing family and friends who sent us blankets and a heater, so we are warm enough to survive, we just want to get on the road and get to some warmth. The winter is hard on our depression and as I mentioned above, my pain. It's hard to get motivated when it hurts to move around and the freezing cold water makes it nearly impossible to clean or even wash my face. We are taking showers here at the campground, but we would be grateful not to have to go out in the snow to walk to the bathhouse.

Anyway, some pics for your enjoyment. I will say this, snow is beautiful when it's just fallen.

Thanks everyone!
Yep, that's the inside of our RV. Brrr!

Our transmission is supposedly rebuilt, but its in a shop miles away from us. The mechanic said its ready to be put in, we just have to get our RV to the shop on a day when there is decent weather so he can install it outside. We may have missed our window for getting out here during the winter as its now sub freezing temperatures and there is snow on the ground. Hopefully we can get towed there on a day when its about 50 degrees outside and get it done and on the road. Still not sure how we are going to pay for it.
