Russell and Betty Ritter Memorial Scholarship Fund

My beautiful nan and pa, Russ and Betty, were lost to us last year. After nearly 70 years of marriage, they couldn’t live without one another - Pa departed on a Sunday night and Nan followed the following Thursday morning. I would like to honour them, their lives and their contributions to so many others in any and every way I can.
As many of you you may know, the Metropolitan Showjumping Club was founded by Russ, with Betty by his side, and many thousands of hours of work allowed it to prosper and be utilised by so many riders over the years. Much of their lives were dedicated to this space, to ensure that riders in Adelaide would have a dedicated Club and Showgrounds in the metropolitan suburbs.
Over the past year I have been in contact with my Grandfathers Primary school (St Leonard’s Primary School - Glenelg North), which his children and grandchildren also attended (myself included). I have set up an initial scholarship in their name to assist students in their academic and sporting achievements. The initial donation which has already been made, will be used to purchase a display cabinet that the school wanted to buy to display some of the medals won by the school.
My grandfather was an avid historian and sportsman who left school in grade 5, though wished he could’ve finished and was the smartest person I ever met. The gentle giant.
And nan, was the most giving, hardworking and wonderful human that walked this earth.
The aim with this scholarship is to provide some funding to the school in their names, to honour and remember them. For their achievements and contributions to everyone they met. And to ensure that the next generation are given the tools to ensure they do well in their education and sporting achievements.
