Okay, so...where do I start? Well, I suppose the best way to go about this is to give you an explanation and for those of you who don't want the long answer, I'll go ahead and give you the headline first.
Jón and I are running the Golden Gate Half Marathon in November and would like to donate the money raised for this run to the wonderful rescue that brought sweet Lincoln into our lives, Greyhound Friends for Life. We are running for racers.
There. Now on to the story....
As you all know, Jón and I brought sweet Lincoln into our lives almost a year ago. He is a retired racing greyhound who came to us from Tucson Greyhound Park via the amazing rescue, Greyhound Friends for Life (GFFL). GFFL is a volunteer run, non-profit organization that has dedicated themselves to saving the lives of racing greyhounds (like our sweet Linc) and other sighthound mixes over the last 25 years. What does that mean? That means that GFFL volunteers will drive to other states at ungodly hours to pick up racers from the tracks, bring in unwanted sighthound mixes from owner surrenders, rescue galgos (the Spanish greyhound) from Spain who have been left behind after their hunting season is over and even fly in abandoned sighthounds from the Middle East for a better life on this side of the world. All this is just the tip of the iceberg of how much work and dedication goes into giving these dogs a better life. These volunteers put in so much heart and love to this very special breed and its cousins and their work has impacted our lives deeply with the addition of our sweet, sweet, Lincoln.
Unfortunately, while the heart and love this organization gives to these hounds is free, the cost of running it is not. Lincoln has been such an amazing addition to our lives and this organization is on my mind a lot and it has been weighing heavily on my heart to somehow give back to this great group.
This is where we *hope* to come in. A few months ago, Jón and myself decided that we wanted to accept the challenge of running the Golden Gate Half Marathon. We thought it would be a great way to get us into shape and to have the satisfaction and accomplishment of finishing a half marathon under our belts. We also decided that along with our own personal achievement we hope to claim, that we can somehow raise money for GFFL and bring more awareness to greyhound/sighthound adoption during this process.
What would your contribution do? A lot. Like I mentioned, while the compassion given to these wonderful canines is free....the care is not. Your contribution would go towards the cost of caring for these angels and that includes but is not limited to the transportation and medical care that accumulates with bringing home these houndies that is not covered in their adoption fee. Your donation would also go towards
the BEST Fund. This money is used to support senior dogs. When GFFL brings in older dogs (8 yrs and up) the medical care for their lives is paid for out of this fund. This really helps get these deserving older dogs adopted.
For our very first time fundraising, we'd like to raise at least $1500.00 to give to GFFL, and if we raise anything beyond that....we'd be thrilled!
So, if you could give anything at all to this awesome group that changed our lives it would be so appreciated!!!

I'm attaching some sweet photos of the evolution of our angel. He came to us so so shy and is blossoming into the kindest dog with a heart as big as his long ol' body! The first photo is the day we picked him up...he was soooo nervous....and the last photo is just from this last week...but if you want more of Linc's greyt tale then you'll have to stay tuned.
