RUN202020 - Help Make Fitness Impartial

Tax deductible
20 marathons in 20 days from San Francisco to Los Angeles—all in a 20-pound weighted vest. Trainers Coalition founder Alan Li is on the run of a lifetime to empower underserved communities with the fitness resources they need to live healthy lives.

Fitness has played a significant role in Alan’s life—and not just on a physical level. It has helped him restore his confidence and self-worth after struggling with bullying, negative body image, depression, and an eating disorder as a teenager. When a fire uprooted his family’s life two years ago, he felt what it was like to have to de-prioritize one's physical and mental wellness for financial reasons. And he realized that for many, pursuing fitness is a luxury. Trainers Coalition came out of his experience in order to ensure that fitness—and its many positive benefits—is within reach for everyone.

As a nonprofit organization, Trainers Coalition battles the physical and mental health disparities prevalent in the low-income community by providing free gym access, personal training, and nutritional counseling to those who need them the most. We strive to make fitness impartial and to empower everyone, regardless of socioeconomic background, to live a healthy lifestyle.

Job instability, food insecurity, struggles with mental health, chronic disease, battles against substance addiction, and many other conditions all affect our clients at disproportionately high rates. These are the types of baggage that many of our clients have to carry with them everyday into work, the gym, and even the beds they sleep in at night (if they have one). Although we may not fully understand what it’s like to live uncertain of where our next meal will come from, we at Trainers Coalition do our best to support and empathize with the individuals we serve. The 20-pound vest is a metaphysical embodiment of the mental and physical baggage that weigh our clients down.

To sustain and expand our program’s reach to underserved communities, we need your help. A $20 donation provides one month of gym access, four personal training sessions, or four nutrition counseling sessions. All funds raised through this campaign will be used to continue our charity operations and expand our services. In the coming years, we plan to:

- provide accessible nutrition counseling sessions and wellness-related resources
- create group training services at Salvation Army's drug rehabilitation facilities in San Francisco
- launch a lupus intervention service to help low income individuals battling lupus reduce the frequency of flare ups
- start charity services in high need areas in Southern California

If fitness is important to you or you would like to empower everyone to live a healthy life, please consider making a donation, sharing this campaign, or leaving words of encouragement below to help Alan carry on his 524-mile journey on foot.
