Rufus' Cryptococcosis Treatment
Rufus' story starts when I adopted him from the SPCA a little over 4 years ago. I made a promise to him that I would always love and take care of him and that he would never be alone again. One of our favorite pastimes since the day I brought him home has always been nature hikes at Northwest River Park. That has always been our "happy place". Unknowingly, he came in contact with a rare strain of Cryptococcus spore in the soil on one of the trails and the fungus has invaded his lungs, liver and lymph nodes. He is currently under the care of my primary vet and a specialist and is undergoing a rigorous medication regimen of oral and subcutaneous meds. With the rarity of this disease in immunocompetent dogs, it took several tests and procedures to finally get a definitive diagnosis in order to treat Rufus effectively. With over $3000 invested in his care thus far over the past couple of weeks, I have come to the point where I have had to humble myself and create this account in order to get Rufus the life saving medication that he needs. His medication costs alone are very expensive in order to prevent the disease from spreading to his brain and hopefully cure him. Unfortunately, I have exhausted my funds in order to help him and have been going back and forth with his insurance company trying to get them to approve his treatment, He still has a lot of fight left in him .......he is my best friend and I would do anything for him. Rufus and I would greatly appreciate any help (no matter how small)!
