Herve's transport and medical fund

Donation protected
My name is Caroline Rolland, my husband is David Rolland and we have two children together, Rebecca 14 and Herve 4.

We are setting up this 'go fund me' page for our son Herve to hopefully raise money to help us buy a wheelchair accessible car and for future medical expenses that will most definitely occur. Herve's story is one of determination and absolute will to survive from day one.

Herve was born in October 2011, at 23weeks and 6days gestation, weighing 660grams, he was given little or no chance of survival as being born under 24weeks gestation means that he clinically was not viable with life.  When he arrived in this world at the national maternity hospital in Dublin, we were told that he was alive but extremely ill and  that it would be second by second, minute by minute possibly hour by hour to see if he would survive.  When Herve survived through his first night we were absolutely elated but we knew that this was only the start of a very long and difficult road. Herve encountered the toughest medical issues caused by his premature birth which included: bleeding on his brain in numerous places, extensive renal failure on a few occasions, a PDA(a blood vessel that helps to fill the babies lungs with air when first born but doesn't close within a few days of birth as it should), necrotising enterocoloitis(NEC) which is a bacterial infection which can destroy the walls of the intestine, he was on a ventilator for 18 weeksbefore being moved onto oxygen through a mask and eventually came home on oxygen prongs, he had ivastin injections for his eyes to help them develop along with laser treatment, heart problems to name but a few, but everyday he was alive and getting a little stronger. Until at 16weeks he became seriously ill again and  wasnt expected to make it through the following 30minutes. He had no blood pressure and lack of oxygen to his brain causing lasting damage. Once again he amazed us and the doctors by pulling through.

Herve is now 4 and has been diagnosed since the age of 1, with spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy, he is blind in his right eye and without his glasses has very poor vision in his left eye, he has hearing issues for which he uses his hearing aids, he gets fed through a peg feeding tube and because of the type of cerebral palsy he has he cannot walk or talk, requires 24hr care and in January we will have his first wheelchair.

This is is where we need your help. We are trying to raise money to get our first wheelchair accessible car for Herve. It would make such a difference to Herve and to us. At the moment, Herve is in a car seat and we have an adapted buggy for him which we keep in the boot of the car we currently have.  However, this will not suffice when we receive Herve's wheelchair. Any amount that you could spare would make a real difference to us and would help to change Herve's transport needs for the future.

Many thanks for reading Herve's story and for any help you are able to give.
