The Nicaraguan children's food fund

$3,695 of $2,500 goal

Raised by 50 people in 43 months

Dear friends and family,

This is my first official Facebook post.  As a lot of you know Steve and I did a fundraiser for the children of San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua in December. We raised 900$! It took us a while to decide what to do with the money because we wanted to make sure all the money went to the people. With that being said... We bought 900$ of beans and rice(1and 1/2 truck loads).

A few days before Easter, Steve, I and our friend Betania(from Nicaragua) embarked on our food drive. There are 3 villages close to San Juan that we had heard needed assistance (some without water or electricity). When we arrived I wasn't really emotionally prepared for what we saw.

The first few houses I cried, thank god for big sunglasses. The children were so beautiful and the parents so appreciative. One of the first grandmothers we encountered actually said that God had just answered her prayers as they were out of food. A few houses down the dirt road, all of a sudden women and children were running down a hill without shoes!  They had heard that there were people driving through the village handing out food. The sad fact for Steve and I was that we were truthfully scared for a moment. Are they going to attack the car... No. They are just desperate and hungry. Our wonderful Betania was our voice of reason at this point.

This has been the most life changing and regarding experience  of our lives. What have I learned from this? There  is a lot of people who need help and It costs only  $1 a day to feed a family of 4. I am proud to say Steve and I were able to feed 30 families for 30 days.

If you have read this whole post, thank you. If you can contribute a few dollars or just repost this, thank you very much!

Update! We’re heading to Nicaragua for Christmas accompanied by my sister Marisa O’neill, her husband Rob O’neill and their two lovely girls Audrey and Ashley. Unfortunately, it’s been two years since we were last able to do our Christmas food delivery but are really looking forward to it. As some of you might know Nicaragua was hit with a few hard tropical storms this year and could use the help even more.

The funds raised will be solely used for beans and rice. It costs on average 30$ a month to feed a family of 4.
Steve at his best!
