Mike's Liver Transplant

Donation protected
Mike is beloved husband, father, son, brother and uncle. He is an energetic, hilarious, goofball dad of five with an infectious personality. If you have met Mike Senior, you would probably agree that he is your favorite person. Mike is the kind of guy who makes friends anywhere he goes and is always the life of the party. He loves fishing, football, and our Dad is now needing our support as he currently is awaiting a life-saving liver transplant.

In July 2015, Mike received a diagnosis of Stage 4 Cirrhosis, an aggressive and incurable liver disease. After a long and tough year and a half of treatment, Mike has been placed on the eligible donors list to receive a replacement liver.

Our Dad is currently admitted at Stanford hospital, where he will stay this Thanksgiving, due to an infection that must be treated before he can receive a transplant.

We are fortunate enough to have him under some of the best care in the country at Stanford and even though we know liver transplants have a high success rate and we are eagerly counting down the days until the surgery, knowing this is not going to be an easy road to recovery.

Waiting for a liver transplant is a double edged sword, you have to get sicker to be closer to a donation. On November 10th, 2016, we received an update on his condition: he is now in a critical state in his end stage liver disease. He suffers from hepatic encephalopathy and ascites among other maladies. Basically, his liver cannot remove toxins from his blood and that comes with a load of complications. He has received blood transfusions due to his liver disease and is scheduled for an ultrasound for his ascites fluid this week.

We started this GoFundMe to relieve a fraction of the financial burden for our parents, Mike and Annette Roney. Because of our Dad’s declining state of health, he was forced into disability and has been unable to work and our mom is now his primary care giver. It's no secret that organ transplants are astronomically expensive. Liver transplants are a six-figure expense and that is only after the months of traveling back and forth to the hospital, overnight stays, and extensive post-surgery treatment expenses including daily checkups for weeks after the procedure. All donations will go directly to these expenses and to begin to pay down medical bills.

We are beyond grateful to anyone and everyone who is able to help our dad and family on the road to recovery. Your support means the world to us. Our family is hopeful and looking forward to a full recovery in time. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Love,

Jason, Sammi, Lauren, Michael, and Melissa
