Rolling The Earth
We are Josh Sewell (25) and Jason Lape (29) and on May 21st, 2016 we will begin a bike trip around the world. Our journey will first take us to Lisbon Portugal where we will spend three months biking across the european continent. We are taking an open ended approach to this journey, which means no scheduled stops and no general direction (except east).
Our journey will take us through the European continent, India, SE Asia, Australia, New Zealand, South America and finally back home to North America.
As avid travelers of this country it has only made sense to us that this is the next step in our journey. Jason (strider) who has thru hiked the Appalachian Trail (2010), biked 7,000 miles across the United States (2011) as well as canoed the entire length of the Mississippi River (2014) and Josh (Gonzo) who has hiked several hundred miles on the Pacific Crest and Appalachian trails as well as biked the Oregon coast cannot imagine a more appropriate way to see the world.
We met in Key West, Florida through mutual trail friends and have spent the past few years working on boats and in restaurants together.
Rolling the Earth by bicycle is the perfect speed in which to see the world. Traveling by car or airplane is too fast, one cannot truly appreciate their surroundings and walking is too slow. Riding a bicycle enables us to become embedded in the cultures we travel through, at a speed which allows us to cover distance on a reasonable budget.
We will be recording video logs along the way as well as updating a blog several times a month. So whether you can donate or not at the very least you should follow us on our adventure.
Our goal is to sustain ourselves on $15 US a day. Although we are aware there will be unforseen financial burdens which will arise. This is where our friends, family and community come in. With a donation of $15, you will know that you have just funded at least another 50 miles of our trip.
