Unfortunately, issues facing men and boys don't receive much media coverage. One primary goal is to educate the public about the problems silently affecting our sons, brothers, and fathers:
-Boys in school are diagnosed with ADHD more than twice as often as girls , and are overmedicated with stimulant drugs to suppress normal, healthy boy behavior.
-Men are subjected to unfair treatment in family court and child custody.
-Male victims of domestic violence lack support and are often turned away from shelters.
-Baby boys are subjected to infant male circumcision, which is a medically unnecessary procedure peformed on infants who cannot consent, and often has damaging effects.
-Men kill themselves nearly four times as often as women, yet suicide is rarely approached as a gendered problem. Very few resources are working to prevent male suicide, which is the second leading cause of death for males age 10-34 .
-Men don't live as long: men's life expectancy is nearly five years shorter than women's.
-Men make up nearly 80% of the unsheltered homeless population.
-In education, boys and young men have been steadily decreasing minority of college graduates for more than 30 years.
-Young men on college campuses across the country are being denied their right to a fair trial in a court of law in cases of alleged sexual assault.
-Only men are required to register for the Selective Service and face severe penalties if they fail to do so, including fines of $250,000 and/or five years in prison.
-Men make up 93% of the US prison population and receive longer sentences for the same crime.
With your support, Rocky Mountain MRA will work to help men and boys suffering in our community.
