Rock Church's Lost Sanctuary

Donation protected
On Sunday August 28, 2016 our ceiling fell in during worship.

Our pastor was away conducting her sister’s funeral, so attendance was low.  It’s probably a good thing that it’s not the same without her.

As the service that morning was beginning we noticed a bigger droop in the ceiling. (An awful wind and hailstorm a few weeks earlier resulted in some noticeable sagging.)  As we began to move the pulpit and candle tables the ceiling collapsed.  We ran for cover as the dust and debris billowed around us.

No one was injured and everyone walked away safely.   We joked that our guest pastor “brought down the roof”.  But since that Sunday, we’ve been on our own.  Our insurance company cancelled the policy stating that “This is a maintenance issue and not our problem.”  All of this despite the fact that the three neighboring churches on the block as well at the theater and a bed & breakfast  across the street have all received major repairs and new roofs in the last several months thanks to their insurance companies.

As you can see in the photos we have a wonderful, historic building.  After a lot of prayer and planning a couple of years ago we built a new fellowship hall.  Every day we are grateful to have that space for worship, fellowship, community meals and project space.  We are committed to community and world mission (Habitat for Humanity, the Heifer Project, Meals on Wheels, Festival of Sharing, and our own Fairy Prom Mothers and Teacher’s Resource Center.)   All of us are proud of the pioneers who stepped out in faith almost 180 years ago.  We think of them as a “great cloud of witnesses” who keep an eye on us now, and we pray that our faithful efforts are “up to snuff”!

We’ve begun the process of litigation after a year of fruitless conversation and negotiation.  It is time to try and take care of our own business!  We seek your prayers and support.
