Labib in association with Wardleworth Community Centre, Youth Connection Rochdale and British Science Week 2018, presents 'Rochdale Science Extravaganza 2018'. On Sunday 18th March 2018, 11AM-5PM DST at Wardleworth Community Centre, South Street, Rochdale, 0L16 2EP.

Sunday 12th March 2017, our community for the first time ever, experienced a science festival. It came about because of a 10 year old boy's love of everything science. The science enthusiast for many years had wanted to host a science related event because "It's miles to travel to Manchester and Birmingham, so why not do something in my home town?". Considering our community is one of deprivation, where parents and children don't dare dream big, ten year old Labib said "It's very important to have this science event because I know what I want to be when I'm older, no matter how difficult or crazy it is. Some of my friends and neighbours don't know what they want to be, and I want people to go for there dreams." Ten year old Labib has exemplified that one can achieve anything if they want to.

Our previous event was beyond expectation, hundreds attended. We had a chemical electrical science extravaganza show followed by outdoor rocket explosions. A science stand encouraging interaction, where many got the opportunity to make slime, fizzy drinks and sweets! Over 200 people got inside the Polestar Planetarium to gaze the night sky. We had a live animal zoo with a huge snake, meerkats, gerbils, rabbits and a owl. A bubbleologist creating bubbles much bigger then me. It was wonderful to see the young, adult and elderly celebrating all thing science.

We thank you all very dearly as this day was only possible because of you, our community, which in total donated £1345 and British Science Association who awarded £500. Thank you all.

So alas, we rise again to the podium, to put together another Science Extravaganza day. Along with our previous attractions we will add even more. A bigger Planetarium able to fit 60 people at once! Two Rock Pools with two marine rangers showing of aquatic species such as Mussels, Crabs and Starfish. A mobile science lab to fit 20 people at once, where each and every one can conduct their very own science experiments. We will even be building our own dinosaur dig, where each person can dig up one dinosaur and keep it, a Paleontologist will be on hand to explain all about fossils and dinosaurs.

Now as extravagant as this all sounds it seems like it'll be a reality. British Science Association have all-ready awarded us with £500, and a massive thanks to councillers Ali Ahmed and Iftikhar, as we have a pledge from Rochdale Borough Councill of £1,050.

But to achieve our goal we need an additional £2000, now thats where you come in, if we attain the same support as we did from the previous event, from family, friends and community members, we should be able to reach our goal!

The purpose of this event is to inspire everyone to believe no matter what walls lay ahead of their path, with hard work and determination you can become what ever you want to be.

So please, help spread our message, help spread our dream. Please Rochdale, will you help us again?
