Everesting for Cruse Bereavement Care Isle of Man

After meeting Amanda, the CEO of Cruse Bereavement Care Isle of Man , and hearing from her about the exceptional bereavement support they offer to the local community - Robert decided that he would like to take part in a fundraising event on their behalf. In an attempt to raise a mammoth £10,000 for this indispensable local charity, he came up with an idea…..
ONE ACTIVITY - NO TIME LIMIT - NO SLEEP
On Saturday 29 June 2019, just before sunrise, Robert will embark on his attempt at a venture that is regarded as the most difficult climbing challenge in the world. Andy van Bergen and Hells 500 are the creators and custodians of the Everesting concept; which is fiendishly simple, yet brutally hard.
The rules are straightforward.
Pick any climb, anywhere in the world, and ride repeat, after grinding repeat, until you have notched up 8,848 vertical metres – the equivalent height of Mount Everest. In one activity. No time limit. No sleep. Complete and submit the challenge to add your name to the everesting.cc Hall of Fame .
This is a brutal personal challenge, with the aim of raising money for, and awareness of, Cruse Bereavement Care Isle of Man .
The death of a loved one can be the most difficult life event to face and Cruse is the only FREE bereavement support service on the Island that is accessible to everyone.
Children, young people and adults come to Cruse, whether it’s to attend one to one sessions, a bereavement group, social group or to receive telephone support. 210 adults and 170 children and young people were supported in 2018. Cruse support extends to the entire family, helping them to understand each other’s loss and come to terms with their adjusted family unit. The Cruse team are also educators in bereavement awareness, supporting after a death in the community, and delivering training to help increase confidence to those working with bereaved groups and individuals.
The demand for bereavement support at Cruse is rising and much needed for those that are struggling to cope with the impact of a death. Having Cruse's support on our Island is vital to the wellbeing of our community.
The official start time will be 0400, and Robert’s hill of choice is Ballakilpheric , above the village of Colby. Robert will have to climb Ballakilpheric around 70 times, and is hopeful that each ascent will take around 11-12 minutes. Depending on the conditions, and how he feels on the day, Robert would like to complete the challenge within 24 hours (max).
Supporters and the Cruse team will be based in a field at the top of the hill. Please come and join us and support Rob!
